The Internal Revenue Service, along with the United States Department of the Treasury, announced yesterday that the paper tax refund checks for individual taxpayers will be phased out starting Sept. 30, 2025. The purpose is to promote efficiency and reduce costs, delays, and security risks associated with the paper refunds. The goal is to get more people using direct deposit, payments on debit cards/credit cards, digital wallets, and other forms of electronic payments for receiving federal income tax refunds.
